If AiHide’s installation is blocked by your work or school browser, check whether the browser is managed and ask your administrator about the organization’s extension policy. An administrator restriction needs an organizational decision. Repeatedly clicking the install button or changing AiHide’s settings cannot grant permission that the browser has withheld.
Check whether the browser is managed
In Chrome, open the main menu and look for a management notice near the bottom. You can also enter chrome://management in the address bar. Google explains that a managed browser can have features and extensions controlled by its administrator. Read Google’s management-status guide.
That status gives useful context, but it does not by itself tell you whether AiHide is allowed. Record the message shown by the store or browser. “Blocked by administrator,” a permission warning and a device-compatibility message describe different problems. Sharing the exact wording helps your support team identify the right next step.
Explain what you want the extension to do
A useful request starts with your working need. For example: you want to hide Google AI Overviews while keeping ordinary result links visible, or minimize question sections to reduce visual clutter. State which of those outcomes matters rather than asking IT to enable an unexplained browser customization.
AiHide provides separate controls for supported Overview and Questions sections. Hide removes a detected section from view; Minimize keeps it behind a Show/Hide bar; Off leaves that category unchanged. It changes the display in a supported desktop browser. It does not change Google’s search ranking, organization-wide Google settings or another person’s browser.
Send IT a short review checklist
Include enough detail for someone who has never used the product to evaluate it:
- Product: AiHide - Remove Google AI Overviews.
- Official listing: the Chrome, Edge or Firefox store link for the browser your organization supports.
- Purpose: customize supported AI Overview and related-question sections on Google results pages.
- Requested access: website content access and extension storage; the current manifest requests broad website access.
- Privacy information: the AiHide privacy policy and permission explanation.
- Environment: browser version, device type and the installation message you received.
Be specific about storage if asked. AiHide’s preferences and all-time counters use browser sync storage, while the language preference and recent daily counts use local extension storage. The extension’s page processing does not send search queries to our servers. Your organization can review those facts alongside its own browser and data-handling requirements.
Rule out a different installation problem
A phone is a separate compatibility issue. AiHide is offered for desktop browsers, and Chrome’s desktop-mode page view does not enable Chrome Web Store extensions on mobile. Our Android and iPhone guide explains the distinction. Use the browser and device your organization has approved.
An outdated browser can also affect installation. Google recommends checking browser updates when extension installation fails; on managed equipment, updates may require IT assistance. Install from a normal browsing window rather than an incognito or guest session. Google’s installation troubleshooting covers these browser-level checks.
If extension installation remains unavailable
Ask whether Google’s Web filter is suitable within your permitted browsing environment. Where available, it offers a view centered on text links without AI Overviews. It is a Google results filter, so it does not require AiHide’s installation. Our comparison of Web and extension controls explains their different scopes.
If installation is approved and AiHide later has no visible effect, move to the results-page troubleshooting guide. Keeping approval, compatibility and feature behavior separate makes each problem easier to resolve with the right person.
