AiHide Not Working? Fix AI Overviews That Keep Reappearing

Check AiHide settings, Google site access, private windows and browser compatibility when AI Overviews or question sections keep appearing.

Our browser extension lets you hide or minimize Google AI Overviews and related question sections.

AiHide browser extension

If AiHide is installed but Google AI Overviews still appear, first check that it is enabled in the browser profile you are using, that AI Overview is set to Hide or Minimize, and that the extension can access the Google results page. Then reload that page. These checks help distinguish a settings issue from a Google layout that needs an extension update.

Check the section you want to change

AiHide has separate controls for AI Overview and AI Questions. Changing one does not automatically change the other. If a large overview remains visible, inspect the AI Overview setting. If expandable question boxes remain, inspect AI Questions, the category used for supported related-question sections such as People also ask.

Off leaves a category unchanged. Minimize keeps a compact Show/Hide bar, so seeing that bar is expected. Choose Hide when you want the detected section removed from view. Our guide to Hide, Minimize and Off explains the differences.

Start with a fresh results page

  1. Open AiHide in the same browser profile as the affected search. A separate window in that profile is not a separate installation.
  2. Confirm the setting for the relevant category.
  3. Reload the Google results tab after installation or an extension update, or when restoring a section previously removed by Hide.
  4. Repeat the search and check the resulting page.

Mode changes can apply immediately to supported sections that are still present. You do not need to reload after every change. There is an important exception: Hide removes the detected section from the current page. Switching to Off or Minimize cannot recreate that removed element. Reload the results page after that switch so Google can build it again. These display controls do not alter your Google account preferences.

Confirm browser access and enablement

In your browser’s extension manager, find AiHide and check that it is enabled. In Chrome, open its Details page and review site access for the Google domain shown in your address bar. If access is withheld, AiHide cannot automatically change that page. Access limited to when you select the extension is also different from permission to run automatically on that site. Google explains Chrome’s extension controls.

Check the profile as well as the browser name. An extension installed in one profile does not establish that it is present in another. Likewise, installing the desktop Chrome version does not make AiHide run inside a phone’s Google app. Use the official listing for your supported desktop browser.

Does it fail only in a private window?

Private-window access is a separate browser setting. In Chrome, review Allow in incognito in the extension’s Details page if you want AiHide in Incognito windows. Firefox also requires permission to run an extension in private windows and does not enable that access by default; Mozilla explains the setting. Test an ordinary window first to check whether private-window access is the difference.

Identify a different feature or a changed layout

AiHide targets supported Google Search results-page sections. A conversational AI Mode screen, the Gemini website or another search engine is a different surface. The feature comparison can help identify what is on screen before you change settings.

If the correct section still appears, install available browser and extension updates through their normal update mechanisms. Google can change its markup, and a particular layout may require an AiHide update. A failure on one page does not establish that every search is affected; a useful report describes the specific case.

Send a report that can be reproduced

If those checks do not resolve the issue, use AiHide support. Describe the section that stays visible, your selected mode and whether a fresh reload helps. Browser and extension versions or a redacted screenshot can help reproduce the case. Include an example query only if you are comfortable sharing it, and remove personal information from any screenshot.
