Can You Hide Google AI Overviews on Android or iPhone?

AiHide is for desktop browsers. Learn what Add to Desktop means on a phone and which Google Search option can offer a link-focused mobile view.

Our browser extension lets you hide or minimize Google AI Overviews and related question sections.

AiHide browser extension

AiHide is a desktop browser extension; it is not available for Android or iPhone. Installing it on a computer does not make it run in your phone’s browser or the Google app. For a mobile search, Google’s Web filter is a documented option for a view focused on website links, where that filter is available in your interface.

Why a desktop installation button is confusing on a phone

You may discover an extension listing while searching on your phone and see an Add to Desktop action. Google explains that this can prepare installation for Chrome on your computer. It does not load the extension into Chrome on the phone. If you return to a mobile search immediately afterward, the page will therefore look unchanged. Google describes the desktop installation flow.

Changing a mobile browser’s page-view option to desktop mode does not solve extension compatibility. Google explicitly states that Chrome Web Store extensions cannot be installed on mobile devices through that setting. The limitation concerns the browser’s extension support, not whether a website looks like its desktop version. Check Google’s installation troubleshooting guide.

Try Google’s Web filter for a mobile search

After searching in Google, look for Web among the result filters; additional filters may be under More. Google describes Web as a text-link view without features such as AI Overviews. Labels and placement can vary, so check the filters actually presented in your search rather than expecting a fixed location. Google documents this option in its AI Overviews help.

This is a choice of results view for that search. It is not an AiHide setting, an account-wide promise to disable AI or a way to install a browser extension. If it provides the kind of results you want on your phone, you can use it without adding AiHide there.

Keep the browser and Google app separate

A search entered in the native Google app and a search opened in a mobile browser are separate environments. A desktop extension cannot reach into the app to change its screen. When following instructions, check whether they concern the app, a mobile browser or a computer; an accurate guide for one can still be unsuitable for another.

It also helps to identify the feature itself. An AI Overview, an AI Mode conversation and an expandable question section are different interfaces. Our Google feature comparison explains the distinction before you spend time looking for a setting that does not apply.

What about Firefox for Android?

Firefox for Android supports compatible extensions, but that does not mean every desktop Firefox add-on works on Android. Mozilla notes that compatibility varies. AiHide’s Firefox offering is for desktop; do not treat Firefox’s general extension support as a mobile installation method for this product. Mozilla’s Android extension guide covers the browser’s broader capabilities.

Use AiHide when you return to your computer

On a supported desktop browser, AiHide lets you control supported AI Overview and related-question sections independently. You can hide a section, minimize it behind Show/Hide or leave it unchanged. Installing AiHide on your computer does not make it run on your phone. Preferences may sync between compatible desktop installations through your browser account.

For a comparison of approaches, read Google’s Web filter versus an AI Overview extension. Choose according to the device you are actually using and the page elements you want to change, rather than relying on a mobile install workaround.
