Choose the group and the purpose of the archive
Open the exact group you want to save in WhatsApp Web. Similar names or renamed groups can be confusing, so check the recent conversation and participants before exporting. Decide whether you need a personal reference, project record, or a readable copy for an authorized recipient.
Group conversations include other people's information. Review what you plan to share before distributing an archive, especially when messages contain contact details, photos, or internal work discussions.
Export the selected group from WhatsApp Web
- Open the group and let the conversation load.
- Check an older message and an important attachment.
- Open ChatVault and select the group in the chat list.
- Choose HTML, TXT, CSV, Excel, or JSON for the task you have in mind.
- Run the backup and keep the popup open until the ZIP downloads.
- Extract the archive into a clearly named folder.
Use HTML when you want to read the group as a conversation. Use CSV or Excel when you want to filter messages by sender or review a specific topic in a table.
Keep sender information and timestamps visible
Check how senders are represented in the exported document. Names may reflect the contact information available in your own WhatsApp session. Do not assume that a displayed name is a verified identity simply because it appears in a chat.
When creating a report or selecting messages, keep timestamps and sender fields beside the text. A message separated from who wrote it and when it was sent can be difficult to interpret, especially in a fast-moving group.
Preserve the attachments that explain the discussion
A group might refer to a file as "the version above" or discuss changes shown in a photo. Keep available media with the main export file so that those references remain useful. Extract the full ZIP and preserve the generated folder structure.
Review media that matters to the record, such as the final project document or a photo mentioned in a decision. If an attachment is missing, check the export report and the original group before labeling the archive complete.
Create a useful record without rewriting the conversation
Store the untouched archive as your source. If you need a summary, create a separate document that links decisions to their dates and relevant messages. Avoid editing the original exported text to make the conversation seem clearer.
For a recurring group, use a consistent naming scheme and an index of exported periods. A short note explaining the group name, export date, and intended scope helps another reader understand the record without guessing.
Frequently asked questions
Can I save a group chat instead of a one-to-one conversation?
Select the desired group in ChatVault while it is available in WhatsApp Web, then run the export workflow. Verify the group name and a few known messages in the downloaded archive.
Can I share the exported group with everyone?
Consider the privacy of the conversation and the rights of participants before sharing. Keep attachments and personal details restricted to recipients who should receive them.
